“OpenAI’s ChatGPT suffered a massive outage in an annoying development that has left users across the globe with slow performance and nothing but blank screens to deal with. More than 3,400 in the U.S. alone reported issues, either slow loading performance or failures in maintaining chat history, according to Down Detector, and a massive 82% of global users were affected.
The problem was not restricted to ChatGPT — other services belonging to OpenAI such as Sora and Codex, too, were affected. Several users encountered the dreaded message: “Unable to load projects.” OpenAI quickly acknowledged the problem on its status page, which listed “elevated error rates” for multiple services.
The company said engineers are “working on deploying a mitigation” to resolve the issue, indicating that analysts and engineers may be working behind the scenes to stabilize service. OpenAI had confirmed at 8:50pm on Tuesday they had found what was causing the outage.
There is no official ETA on when things will be back to 100 percent, but the tech giant’s transparency is at least making users somewhat optimistic. For now, users facing issues should stay patient as OpenAI works to bring ChatGPT back up and running.
