What is SuperIntelligenceLabs?
Meta’s new lab, called MetaSuperIntelligenceLabs (MSL), brings together the best of the company’s existing AI research groups under one roof. Its goal is to create AI systems that can match or outperform humans at most tasks. Mark Zuckerberg described it as “the beginning of a new era for humanity” and said he was “fully committed to doing whatever it takes to move Meta forward.”
Who is running SuperIntelligenceLabs?
Alexander Wang – the high-profile founder of data-labeling firm ScaleAI – will serve as Meta’s chief AI officer and head of MSL.
Former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman will co-lead applied research and product work.
Startup SSI co-founder Daniel Gross joins as a senior leader.
Why did Meta invest $14.3 billion in ScaleAI?
a has invested heavily in Scale AI, buying about 49% of its stake. This gives Meta special access to Scale AI’s data engineering systems, which are very important for building large AI models.
Alexandr Wang has also joined Meta with this deal.
With the investment made by Meta, Scale AI can now do its work even faster and its future is now linked with Meta.
In simple words – Meta has made Scale AI its partner by paying money, so that they can work together faster in future AI projects.
Talent race: Why is Meta taking talent from platforms like OpenAI, Google?
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in his internal post that he has recently hired 11 new researchers from big AI companies like OpenAI, Google DeepMind and Anthropic.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said that Meta is offering signing bonuses of up to $100 million to lure its researchers. This shows how much competition there is among companies to bring in the top level of AI.
In simple words –Meta wants to create AI at a fast pace, so it is bringing talent that can work with the same speed and thinking.
What will Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) actually create?
Meta has not yet revealed the complete planning, but inside information has revealed that MSL will have three major tasks in the beginning.
1. Creating new generation AI models
Meta has already created an AI model named Llama. And now it wants to make an even better version of Llama
2. Wants to add smart AI to Meta’s apps
Meta wants to bring AI-powered smart chatbots to its platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, and Metaverse,
So that users can get even better facilities
3. Long research on “Superintelligence”
Meta will research such AI systems – which keep learning on their own, and can also plan for the future, just like humans think.
That is – Meta now wants to create not just smart AI, but such an AI model that can think, learn and take decisions on its own like humans – and this is the big objective of MSL.
